How to dilute Thieves laundry soap

Young Living’s Thieves laundry soap is amazing!  It does such a good job cleaning our clothes and I love knowing that I’m not using any nasty harsh ingredients.  It’s super concentrated, which is great (a little goes a long way so your bottle lasts a long time!) but can also make it easy to accidentally use too much and not get as much bang for your buck.

Hudson just turned 6 and I want him to start helping with the laundry but I knew it would be hard for him to pour the correct amount without over-pouring; I started diluting my laundry soap into pump bottles so that I could get the most use out of it and to make it easier for him to control.  I love it this way!

Here’s how to dilute Thieves laundry soap

Supplies needed:

What you do:

  • Divide the laundry soap evenly between the three pump bottlesIf you want to be very specific about it that would be about 10.5 ounces per pump bottle since a bottle of Thieves laundry soap is 32 ounces.  I just eyeballed it though.
  • Add 3 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner to each pump bottle
  • Add 20-30 drops of your essential oil(s).  I used 10 drops of Purification and 10 drops of lavender.  Other good oils might be tea tree, Joy, lemongrass or whatever your favorite oils are!
  • Fill the pump bottle the rest of the way with water.  I used filtered water from our Berkey.  If you don’t have a Berkey I’d recommend using distilled water.
  • The laundry soap and water will be separated.  Gently shake it to mix it.  Mine did not mix right away so I just gave it a good shake several times throughout the day and then also would shake it before I pumped it into the machine the first several times.  After a couple of days of that it mixed well and I haven’t had any issues with separating.

Pro Tip: after you add the laundry soap but before you add anything else take a sharpie and make a mark on the bottle showing the top of the laundry soap.  That way when you refill it you don’t have to do any measuring or eyeballing, just fill it to the line you made.

Usage instructions:

I use 4-5 pumps of the soap per load depending on the size of the load.

The first bottle has lasted me almost two months and it still has some in it.  I predict it’ll last at least the full two months, maybe more.  So the total recipe (the 3 pump bottles made out of the one bottle of Thieves laundry soap) should last our family of five people at least six months, which is amazing!  (I’ll come back and update this post once I’ve used them up)
